Back to 2007 News

Group W Art Works began 2006 with two Yardage Book projects. The first was for the much anticipated Frederica Golf Club, Sea Island's new private course designed by Tom Fazio. The second was for the Golf Course at Glen Mills, a longtime Group W client and host of a regional qualifier for the 2006 US Open.

Springtime brought new poster projects, one local to Philadelphia and one farther afield. To commemorate the Centennial awarding of the Silver Cross, the Golf Association of Philadelphia commissioned Lee Wybranski to create an original painting depicting the medal, the three venues for the 2006 event, and several illustrious past champions. Group W also published posters of the artwork which were distributed to all competitors and member clubs.

The next poster was created for the 2006 Shell Houston Open. One of the oldest events on Tour, the SHO is now hosted by Redstone Golf Club, a 2005 logo client. This year the tournament was played on Redstone's new Rees Jones – David Toms masterpiece, and Lee went out to sign posters during the competition in April.

Perhaps the highlight of the first half of 2006 is the multiple commission Lee Wybranski received from the revered Sea Island Golf Club. Lee created four paintings of the club's golf course and the fantastic new Lodge. Group W produced Framed Miniature Prints and notecards from the artworks, which now hang near the famed links on St Simon's Island.

Equally exciting is the studio's newest logo client. Group W has been contracted to create new logo materials for Alpine Country Club, the 2006 Metropolitan NY Club of the Year. Located just above the New Jersey Palisades on the Hudson River, Alpine CC has a long, rich history to go along with its recently renovated AW Tillinghast golf course, and we are pleased for this unique opportunity to contribute to the club's heritage. Check back to see our progress with this project.

A sampling of current projects includes miniature projects with Metedeconk National (NJ), Caves Valley (MD), Turner Hill (MA), Crooked Stick(IN), Torresdale-Frankford (PA), and, perhaps most visually exciting, the Teton Pines GCC in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Group W is also working on the logo for the 2009 Walker Cup at Merion, and scorecards for the Oyster Harbors Club in Cape Cod, MA.

Lastly, Group W Art Works is pleased to welcome sales representative and PGA Professional Tom Kelly to the team. Tom is a respected member of the golf community in the Philadelphia and New York region and has been working successfully in the awards business with Heritage Creations for several years. We're happy to have him carrying our portfolio and he has already brought many new opportunities to the studio, including a number of those listed above.

A final note: the studio will soon be losing our assistant Nicole Donnelly to her graduate studies in Iowa. Nicole has been an invaluable asset and has broadened her role considerably since she taking over the position. We thank her for her hard work, and look forward to hearing of her next successes.
